The initiative integrates LED luminaires with motion sensors, ambient-light detectors and wireless connectivity to optimise illumination levels in real time. Municipal authorities in each capital have granted permits for initial corridors covering central business districts and major transport hubs.
Technical Deployment and Partnerships
Engineers are installing approximately 12 000 connected fixtures across the three cities. Each unit transmits usage data to a central cloud platform that adjusts brightness according to pedestrian density, weather forecasts and scheduled events. Lumoza collaborates with local utilities to piggyback on existing fibre infrastructure, reducing civil works. Firmware updates will be delivered over the air to incorporate new energy-saving algorithms developed in partnership with research institutes in each country. Early tests indicate average power reductions of 35 percent during off-peak hours while maintaining required lux levels for safety compliance.
Project timelines call for completion of the first phase within nine months, followed by a six-month evaluation period. Data dashboards will be shared with city planners to identify hotspots for future expansion. Privacy safeguards ensure that sensor data remains anonymised and complies with GDPR requirements.
Expected Urban and Environmental Outcomes
City officials anticipate lower electricity bills, reduced maintenance visits and measurable cuts in CO2 emissions. The network is also designed to support future smart-city applications such as air-quality monitoring and traffic-flow analysis. Residents in pilot zones will receive information leaflets explaining the technology and reporting channels for any concerns about light levels or privacy.
